"We are not seeing kids in cages. We are not seeing family separation used as a deterrence policy. But what we are seeing is thousands of kids in [Customs and Border Protection] facilities, in facilities that are not meant for children. And what we are seeing is a growing need to quickly respond in a humanitarian way."

This week, LIRS President and CEO Krish O’Mara Vignarajah joined CNN to discuss the influx of unaccompanied children at the Southern border.

We need your help. More than 4,000 unaccompanied immigrant children are in Border Protection (CBP) custody right now, some as young as six or seven years old. While the maximum legal stay for minors in CBP custody is 72 hours, the average is currently 120 hours. LIRS is working quickly to reunite children with their families and give them a safe, stable home—but we need your support.

On Tuesday, LIRS Culture Kitchen returned for a special episode! LIRS CEO Krish O'Mara Vignarajah met with Returned Peace Corps Volunteers (RPCVs) who are members of the Peace Corps Community for Refugees to discuss food accessibility and nutrition in refugee camps, adapting native traditional recipes in the U.S., and how food brings us together.
