John,

On March 2nd, Dream Corps JUSTICE and our partners from across the United States celebrated our fifth annual #DayofEmpathy. This day of action may have been virtual, but not even the pandemic could contain our organizers’ impact and power.

Will you keep the spirit of empathy going by signing and sharing our petition for incarcerated people to be prioritized for COVID vaccinations?

Now, let’s break down the numbers behind what made this day of action so special…

🧡  40 events were held in 36 states from Hawaii to New Hampshire led by formerly incarcerated or otherwise impacted advocates, centering the voices of those closest to our nation’s problems to advance real, commonsense solutions. In Georgia, we celebrated the passage of Dignity for Incarcerated Women ambassador Pamela Winn’s bill out of the state legislative committee.

🧡  4,300 Dream Corps members signed up to take part in this day of action, including over 1,200 people who indicated that they’ve been impacted by the legal system and 115 people who volunteered to get the word out and help our organizers run their events.

🧡  Big-name influencers generated national attention on the urgency of reform by amplifying our message and reaching new audiences, including Miss Tina Knowles-Lawson, Hope Solo, Alyssa Milano, Jeff Ross, Valarie Kaur, San Francisco 49ers’ Azeez Al-Shaair, and Buffalo Bills’ Dion Dawkins.

We’re only getting started for 2021. In partnership with our Empathy Network of grassroots leaders, we’ll be doubling down on our Dignity for Incarcerated Women campaign, launching a brand new campaign around Fines and Fees, and taking the lead on critical federal criminal justice reform.

Dream Corps JUSTICE represents a bipartisan movement to cut crime and incarceration at the local, state, and federal level. The Day of Empathy was a reflection of our fierce commitment toward these shared goals. Now let’s build off of that momentum together to pass federal, state, and local criminal justice reform.

Will you join us by taking action for people vulnerable to COVID-19 in our jails and prisons?

– Janos Marton and The Dream Corps JUSTICE Team

P.S. Now is the perfect time to get more involved, whether you’re directly impacted or an ally. Sign up to join our Empathy Network here. From there, we can connect you to an advocate or organizer fighting for justice in your state or region.
