I recently announced the result of our investigation into McKinsey, a multinational consulting firm with ties to Purdue Pharmaceuticals. My office held McKinsey accountable for its role fueling the opioid epidemic. As a result, I directed $13.5 million towards treatment, prevention, and recovery efforts in Washington.

During my team’s investigation, we discovered that McKinsey discussed ways for Purdue to “turbocharge” sales of OxyContin, and they advised that Purdue pay rebates for overdoses linked to the pills they sold. After McKinsey came under scrutiny for its role in the opioid epidemic, two senior partners at McKinsey discussed purging records related to Purdue.

The $13.5 million we recovered from McKinsey for treatment and recovery efforts is just a first step in our multifaceted effort to address the epidemic and hold those responsible accountable.
