Success! A real boost for buses
Hello
Earlier this week, the Government published a National Bus Strategy - something we've long campaigned for.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this campaign successful, whether you took one of the actions on our website, wrote to your MP or made a financial donation - when we work together we can really make things happen!
Millions of us rely on buses, so it's right that there is now a national strategy that acknowledges their importance - as there has long been for rail and roads. And the strategy is really ambitious, containing many of the things we've been calling for:
- Lower, simpler fares
- More bus priority schemes (such as bus lanes) to speed up journeys
- 4,000 new British-built zero emission buses
- A greater role for local authorities, which must produce Bus Service Improvement Plans
- £3 billion to support the delivery of the Strategy
Read more details in our blog.
Thanks again for all your support. This is a challenging time for public transport, but if we act together we can help to give it a bright future. (We're planning some actions that we'd love you to get involved with... look out for our emails or follow us on Twitter or Facebook to hear about them.)
Goodbye for now
Paul
