John,

Happy Women’s History Month! This month, it’s important for us to take time to recognize and celebrate women across the globe who have overcome obstacles and helped to make the world a better place.

Women’s History Month began right here in Sonoma County when the Education Task Force of the Sonoma County Commission on the Status of Women created Women’s History Week back in 1978. After nearly a decade of celebrating Women’s History Week, Congress officially declared March as Women’s History Month.

While we have much to celebrate this month, we still have a lot of work ahead of us to create a more equal nation — and just this week the House made huge strides by voting to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act and the ERA.

It is time we take the necessary steps to ensure women across the nation feel safe and have the support they deserve. The Violence Against Women Act will help protect women against domestic violence, sexual assault, and dating violence by aiding the delivery of assistance to victims of these crimes.

Not only did we have the opportunity to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act, but we voted to remove the deadline to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. Our fight to enact the ERA has been ongoing and difficult and there should never be an end date on equality for all.

We are making incredible strides towards an equal and just nation. While we still have a long road ahead of us, please join me this month in celebrating all the women in our lives and those who came before us to pave the way for future generations!

Thank you for your support and for all that you do.
