Every House Democrat and more than 30 House Republicans voted to reward illegal immigration by granting amnesty to illegal aliens despite the ongoing border crisis driven mainly by Pres. Biden's promises of a mass amnesty.

The House approved two separate bills yesterday -- the American Dream and Promise Act (H.R. 6) and the Farm Workforce Modernization Act (H.R. 1603) -- that would not only award amnesty with a path to citizenship, but also expand legal immigration and the agricultural guest worker program.

As our new television commercial explains, rewarding just one illegal alien with amnesty exponentially increases legal immigration through chain migration. Once an illegal alien receives citizenship, the alien can sponsor his or her spouse, kids, and parents for green cards. The spouse can then sponsor his or her parents, and the parents can sponsor their kids and siblings, creating endless chains of additional family migration.

While a number of House Democrats came to the floor last night to mention that a majority of Americans support passing the Dream Act, Roy pointed out in his recent blog that that support is dropping as the border surge continues. It also doesn't tell the full story. Large majorities of likely voters support deterring illegal immigration by mandating employers to use E-Verify and ending chain migration before granting amnesty to illegal aliens. FARM BILL LIMITS JOB OPTIONS FOR AMERICAN WORKERS

Most of our focus on the Farm Workforce Modernization Act has been on the seven different amnesties contained in the bill. But just as worrisome is a massive expansion of the agricultural guest worker program, taking future job opportunities away from American workers.

The H-2A guest worker program currently provides farmers with a numerically unlimited supply of foreign labor to perform field work. But the Farm Workforce Modernization Act expands the H-2A visa program to include jobs in dairy, meat processing, fish canneries, and more, while also freezing the adverse effect wage rate, allowing employers to pay foreign workers less money to do those jobs.

According to recent analysis of government data by the Center for Immigration Studies, the majority of workers in dairy, meat processing, and fishing are native-born Americans. But H.R. 1603 would reduce these job opportunities for American workers at a time when millions of Americans continue to struggle as a result of the pandemic.

It's time to hold these lawmakers accountable! We've posted new action opportunities on your Action Board, allowing you to send free messages to your U.S. Representative depending how he/she voted yesterday.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ACTIVISM

While yesterday's results weren't what we had hoped for, both bills did receive fewer overall votes than they received during the last Congress. Furthermore, the following four House Republicans changed their YES vote from the last Congress, voting NO yesterday (congratulations to those of you in their Districts).

  • Steve Stivers of Ohio
  • Russ Fulcher of Idaho
  • Tom Cole of Oklahoma
  • David McKinley of West Virginia

Once again, thank you to all of the NumbersUSA activists who flooded Congress with calls over the last week! We'll have much more work to do to stop the Senate from letting these bills get to the President's desk.
