The Unz Review Digest - March 19, 2021
As a holdover from late last week, Mike Whitney’s column ranked first for the second week in a row, now having accumulated as much traffic than the next four most popular features combined, and already easily ranking as our most popular article of the last six months. This long and provocative analysis of Israel’s world-leading vaccination campaign notes that although a large fraction of that nation’s population has already been vaccinated, Covid-19 infections have also been rapidly rising, raising questions about the effectiveness of that crucial health measure. The article goes on to speculate that widespread use of the vaccine may actually have serious negative consequences, possibly even leading to the appearance of more lethal forms of the disease. All these matters were hotly debated in some 280 comments totaling more than 30,000 words. A more recent column by Whitney hailing the anti-lockdown policies of South Dakota governor Kristi Noem placed sixth.
Ranking second was my own first anniversary overview of the Covid-19 outbreak, focusing especially on the impact and likely origins. I began by noting that although the media headlines have almost invariably claimed that America’s total deaths recently broke 500,000, this seems to be a severe underc-estimate, and that the more reliable figure of “excess deaths” now probably easily exceeds 900,000 and may shortly break one million, a figure that would have seemed almost unimaginable a year ago. Meanwhile, my detailed analysis suggested that there is strong, perhaps even overwhelming evidence that these million Americans probably died as the unintended blowback consequences of an American biowarfare attack on China (and Iran), most likely perpetrated by rogue elements associated with the Deep State Neocons in the Trump Administration. These controversial theories were hotly debated in over 650 comments totaling nearly 100,000.
Third place was held by Philip Giraldi’s focus on the tremendous intellectual arrogance and incompetence of the overwhelmingly Jewish Neocons who have largely gained control of both our political parties, along with our academic and media institutions, and redirected American government policy toward their own ends.
Placing fourth and fifth were somewhat related articles by Max Parry and the Saker, sharply criticizing current American foreign policy actions directed against Russia and China, and strongly suggesting that our leadership has grown totally irresponsible and unable to recognize the tremendous decline of America’s strategic position under their actions. Taken together, these two articles attracted over 500 comments totaling more than 60,000 words.
What's going on in Israel? Has anyone figured it out yet? Isn't Israel the most vaccinated country in the world? It is. Haven't half of all Israelis already been vaccinated? Yes, they have. Haven't 90% of all Israelis over 60 (the age-group most likely to die from Covid) already been vaccinated? Yes. Then how did...

As We Rapidly Approach a Million American Deaths
Winston Churchill famously observed that in wartime the truth must be surrounded by a bodyguard of lies. Many of my own long and most controversial articles have followed a somewhat analogous presentation, with the opening sections that sometimes run hundreds of words or longer often being rather innocuous or even somewhat off-topic. These are intended...

Bret Stephens tells us all about it
Those who have followed developments in the Middle East would likely agree that Israel covers up its war crimes and other human rights violations by regularly invoking its own victimhood. Whether the subject is U.S. aid to the Jewish state or media coverage of the illegal expansion of Israel into the West Bank, one will...

Uncle Sam is 'Sick Man' of the West
As American economic power continues to decline, a division has emerged within the U.S. political establishment as to which of its designated adversaries is to blame for the country’s woes — Russia, or China. The dispute came to a head during each of the last two presidential elections, with the Democratic Party first blaming Moscow...

Did you catch Biden's speech on Thursday? I did. I foolishly thought Biden would use the opportunity to address the 90 million-or-so Americans who think the election was stolen and that Biden is not really the president. But, no, the niggling issue of "legitimacy" never even came up, nor did any of the ten other...

Weddings are usually cause for celebration, and royal weddings are cause for national rejoicing. Even we colonials are fascinated by the British royal family. In 2014, when King Felipe VI succeeded his father Juan Carlos I of Spain, the crowds were puny compared to the commoners who rejoiced to see Prince William marry Kate Middleton....

Leftism is built on lies. I know that. I’ve seen countless examples of it. But even I was surprised by the Guardian’s dishonesty in February 2021. It was reporting on “rising violence against Asian communities in the US” and, of course, it was refusing to admit that Blacks were responsible. Well, I was ready for...

We’ve got some new information about Pfizer, the pharmaceutical company that has designed one of the deadly coronavirus vaccines from The Intercept’s Lee Fang. He’s gotten ahold of internal documents, which were intended for investors. Currently, Pfizer claims that you need two injections of the “vaccine” in order for it to work. However, Fang has...

So, we’re almost a year into the “New Normal” (a/k/a “pathologized totalitarianism”) and things are still looking … well, pretty totalitarian. Most of Western Europe is still in “lockdown,” or “under curfew,” or in some other state of “health emergency.” Police are fining and arresting people for “being outdoors without a valid reason.” Protest is...

On March 10, Texas effectively eliminated all restrictions related to the Covid pandemic. The shutdown ended, restaurant capacities were restored to 100%, and perhaps most significantly for everyday life, mask mandates were lifted. Masks are the most visible, and the most individually obtrusive, aspect of the pandemic. At present, 34 states have some form of...

A strange phenomenon in postmodern life is the schizophrenic attitude towards differences between men and women. On the one hand, our culture denies that there are any significant psychological differences between men and women which might explain the radically different preferences of the sexes in many sectors. If virtually all UberEats food delivery bikers are...

The Biden Administration is now preparing to go after the people that it objects to and will create new laws as necessary to do so. The claim is often made that President George W. Bush’s war on terror, which produced legislation that was employed to attack Iraq in 2003, eventually morphed into the worst foreign...

By any historical measure, it was a game-changer: the first meeting since the 7th century between a Roman Catholic Pope and a Shiite spiritual leader regarded as a “source of emulation.” It will take a long time to assess the full implications of the immensely intriguing 50-minute face-to-face conversation, with interpreters only, between Pope Francis...

The danger posed by the Deep State is that it wields immense power but is unelected and unaccountable
As a former intelligence officer, I find it amusing to read articles in the mainstream media that blithely report how the latest international outrages are undoubtedly the work of CIA and the rest of the U.S. government’s national security alphabet soup. The recurring claim that the CIA is somehow running the world by virtue of...

Just a few weeks ago I wrote a column entitled “The Ukraine’s Many Ticking Time Bombs” in which I listed a number of developments presenting a major threat to the Ukraine and, in fact, to all the countries of the region. In this short time the situation has deteriorated rather dramatically. I will therefore begin...

In a searing, concise essay, Alastair Crooke pointed to the heart...
