The Bipartisan Background Checks Act is one of the rare policies that has broad support across the political spectrum. Unfortunately, that universal support does not include the self-interested gun industry or Senate Republicans beholden to their power.

Every day innocent Americans are hurt by gun violence — yet Republicans and the gun lobby they have bent over backwards to support have refused to move forward with the bipartisan background checks legislation that I championed through the Judiciary Committee over two years ago.
