Eighteen years ago today, the United States invaded Iraq. That means there are troops old enough to be deployed to Iraq who were not even born when this conflict started.
The key to ending America’s Forever Wars is — and always has been — repealing the Authorizations for Use of Military Force (AUMFs) that have been abused across administrations of both parties. Until both the 2001 and 2002 AUMFs are repealed, our troops will be stuck with open-ended commitments in the Middle East and elsewhere.
