Hi John,
This week brought a horrifying reminder of the cost of inaction on gun violence prevention. On Tuesday, a mass shooting in Atlanta stole eight lives, including six Asian women, and shook the nation. It was a tragic reminder of the deadly combination of hate—including racism, xenophobia, and misogyny—and easy access to guns.
We will not sit idly by in the wake of yet another national tragedy. Join us in recommitting to standing up against racism and hate and fighting to end the gun violence epidemic. Today, honor the Atlanta victims with action by signing this petition to call on your senator to act on gun safety.
There are concrete steps the Senate can take NOW to help prevent more senseless gun violence from devastating our communities. The House of Representatives passed two very important bills to expand background checks to all gun sales—H.R. 8, the Bipartisan Background Checks Act, and H.R. 1446, the Enhanced Background Checks Act.
Now it is the Senate’s turn to take action. In 2019, the House passed similar background check legislation, but it languished under Mitch McConnell’s leadership. We cannot let that happen again. More than 90 percent of Americans support expanded background checks, the Senate has no excuse not to act.
Please, take a minute today to sign and send this petition. Demand your Senator support and pass background check legislation and save lives!
Thank you,
Nelago (she/her)
