My heart goes out to the communities and loved ones of the eight people who were killed in Atlanta on Tuesday night.
These eight people, six of them Asian women, were killed Tuesday night at three different spas in Atlanta. They were humans with stories and aspirations, and their lives were tragically cut short.
Their untimely deaths are all the more devastating knowing anti-Asian hate crimes have been up 150% since January of last year. Tuesday's attack in Atlanta is now the latest example of how our nation's longstanding history around white supremacy, misogyny, sinophobia, gun violence, and imperialism can manifest into deadly, targeted violence.
We must put an end to the hate, and we must protect and support each other in the face of a rising tide of white supremacist hate, John. We must stand with our Asian and Asian American family against white supremacist patriarchy, in all of its forms.
That's why I'm supporting Asian Americans Advancing Justice — Atlanta. AAAJ created a relief fund where we can donate directly to support the victims of this horrific shooting, their families, and the Asian American Pacific Islander communities of Georgia who are impacted by the violence.
