There’s no way to sugarcoat it, John:

In recent years, the filibuster has become the death grip of our democracy.

Republicans have wielded it as a weapon of mass obstruction to hold the U.S. Senate hostage.

Critical legislation -- like the Dream Act -- has been blocked again and again by the filibuster.

The GOP claims that they don’t want to see the President govern by executive order -- yet they are standing in the way of the world’s greatest deliberative body’s ability to debate and legislate.

Abuse of the filibuster has worsened as Senators no longer have to stand on the Senate floor to block legislation. They should not be able to literally “phone in” their obstructionism.

At a minimum, Senators who try to filibuster legislation should be required to do it openly and actively on the Senate floor. I am also open to discussing any reforms that will promote debate and defend our democracy.

Are you with me, John? It’s time to speak out and make our voices heard.
