Friends -

On Tuesday night, we heard news of a series of shootings in Georgia. In just 45 minutes, a man with a gun went to three different locations and took eight lives -- six of whom were Asian women.

It was the latest incident in a trend of increasing hate and violence against the Asian-American community since the start of the pandemic. This bigotry has been fueled by Donald Trump and his racist attacks against communities of color in our country.

I stand in solidarity with the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. We must condemn hatred and violence in the strongest terms and stand together in the pursuit of justice.

The Senate should act now by passing universal background checks legislation that will save lives and help us end gun violence. It is a popular and common-sense idea that would make clear we will not allow the gun violence crisis to continue without action.

Will you add your name today to demand the Senate pass universal background checks? This legislation has already passed the House on a bipartisan vote, and more than 90% of Americans support this common-sense reform.

My heart is with the victims, their families, and community, but ENOUGH with the thoughts and prayers without meaningful action. It is our job to pass the life-saving laws that can address crises like this one.
