John -- We are celebrating a historic day for the progressive movement! 

Representatives Pramila Jayapal and Debbie Dingell introduced the Medicare for All Act of 2021 -- legislation that would guarantee health care  as a human right for every American.

The bill would provide comprehensive benefits with no copays, deductibles, premiums, or any other cost-sharing requirements.

Brand New Congress has championed Medicare for All since our inception. It’s time to act NOW!

The need to abolish for-profit healthcare systems has never been greater. People were already suffering before COVID, but as unemployment has skyrocketed and millions have been kicked off their job-sponsored health care, there’s no time to waste. 

The response to the bill is another reason to celebrate! Obviously all four Brand New Congress representatives signed on to the bill, but the sense of urgency is now rippling across the country.

Three hundred local, state, and national organizations have endorsed the legislation and over HALF of the entire House Democratic Caucus signed onto the bill. Of those members, 14 are committee chairs or in key leadership roles. This is a huge step forward!  

And while this is the most support for a single-payer healthcare system we have ever witnessed, the fight has only just begun.

Passing Medicare for All will require electing MORE progressive leaders to both the House and the Senate. So we have A LOT of work to do to get this bill on a president’s desk.
