Newsletter of the Goethe-Institut Washington

Dear Friends,

On March 30, the Goethe-Institut Washington, the Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung, and Beyond Nuclear International will present Defiance on Film — featuring the directors and protagonists from two new documentary films, 33 Days of Utopia (2020, Germany) and The Beekeeper (2020, United Kingdom). An online discussion-style event will take place via Zoom on Tuesday, March 30, at 1:00pm Eastern US time, with pre-screenings of both films available free to those who register.

For the third episode of Radical Diversity in 2021, we travel to New York, one of the U.S.’s media and journalism hubs. We’ve invited Carla Murphy, a journalist, writer, and editor who focuses on inequality and diversity in journalism and journalism reform. Murphy will speak with Max Czollek and Mohamed Amjahid about how to build diverse and sustainable newsrooms, as well as challenging the troubled history of objectivity in journalism.

Don't forget the March 31 deadline for applications to our new Public Interest Design Lab collaboration with the DC Public Library! Submit your project ideas today; further directions are below.

Radical Diversity: New York

Radical Diversity is like a look through a kaleidoscope. Shapes of societal challenges and bright visions for progress form new patterns with every new movement. Learn more about discrimination, racism, oppression, and concepts for change in North America and in Germany.

Max Czollek (“De-integrate Yourselves”) and Mohamed Amjahid (“Among Whites: What It Means to Be Privileged”) talk to passionate activists and examine the threats and tasks German and North American societies are confronted with.
