The oil and gas industry has a problem: all of its fracking has created a gas surplus that greatly outpaces demand. And its way out is to create more demand and build more infrastructure that relies on fracked gas. The bottom line: Big Oil & Gas wants to keep drilling and lock us into a fossil-fueled future.
At a time when we need to move away from fossil fuels, more than 700 new facilities have been built, proposed, or are under development to capitalize off the oversupply of cheap fracked gas. That’s why Food & Water Watch is working with residents and activists across the country to stop Big Oil & Gas from building more mega-polluting fracked gas projects.
The fossil fuel industry’s plastics and petrochemical plants emit massive amounts of air and climate pollution. But for years, the federal government has given Big Oil & Gas a blank check to continue with more fracking, pipelines and petrochemical facilities, ignoring the sickness, death and damage they cause.
Petrochemical companies have destroyed entire communities, from the shale fields of Pennsylvania to the petrochemical corridor of Louisiana, prioritizing their own profits over human lives.
To stop climate change and save lives, we have to stop the dirty, deep-pocketed fossil fuel, petrochemical and plastics industries, and ban fracking once and for all.
This isn’t just an environmental problem; it’s an issue of racial and economic justice as well. Low-income and Black and Brown communities are twice as likely to be exposed to toxic air and water pollution. And Harvard researchers found a direct link between the most severe symptoms of COVID-19 and air pollution.
People are more important than corporate profit. In the fight to prevent climate chaos, our leaders must also fight environmental injustice. That’s why we must ban fracking, stop the plastics explosion, and stand with communities to fight for a better future. Join us!
