The Rian Immigrant Center Denounces violence against Asian American communities.

Anti-Asian bigotry and hate crimes on the rise in the United States. The Rian Immigrant Center denounces the escalating incidents of abhorrent racial injustice and acts of violence targeting Asian individuals, families and communities. We are saddened to learn about the killing of eight individuals on Tuesday in Atlanta, six of whom were Asian women. We mourn the death of Vichar Ratanapakdee, a Thai immigrant sensely killed last month. As a community we must recognize that these incidents are not isolated. Since last March, the organization Stop AAPI Hate has received over 2800 incident reports of hate from 47 states and the District of Columbia. These reports include cases of name calling, shunning, being spat on, coughed on and assaulted. Many of the reports were from women. This racially motivated violence must stop, and we remain committed to working towards equity and justice.
