Angell Oncology Service Welcomes New Patients

After a brief hiatus from accepting new medical oncology cases, our Oncology service is pleased to again welcome new patients for both medical oncology and radiation therapy services.

Outpatient Abdominal Ultrasound Only in Waltham

We are pleased that our Internal Medicine service at Angell West continues to offer outpatient ultrasound (O/P U/S) appointments and have added evening drop-off spots on alternating Mondays. Due to increased caseload in Boston, our Diagnostic Imaging service has suspended the referral outpatient ultrasound service at our Boston location.

Hearing Loss? Head Shaking? Could it be Primary Secretory Otitis Media (PSOM)?

The primary presenting complaint of PSOM is gradual hearing loss that can occur over a 3-8 month period, sometimes concurrently with head shaking/ear irritation with no evidence of concurrent otitis externa. Dr. Brooke Simon of Angell's Dermatology service reviews the clinical signs, diagnosis and treatment of this disease.

Fluid therapy
Current Concepts in Fluid Therapy

Standardized fluid therapy recipes (“one size fits all”) are no longer supported; instead, current recommendations urge that fluid therapy is detailed for the individual patient, taking into consideration their clinical illness, needs/deficits, and comorbidities. The primary goal behind using intravenous fluids is to maintain or restore intravascular volume, tissue perfusion, and reverse dehydration. Courtney Peck, DVM, DACVECC provides helpful information on how to effectively incorporate fluid therapy into our daily practice.
