Katie couldn’t have done this without you
John, it’s hard to believe, but we’ve nearly completed the first 1/4 of 2021. While it’s going to be important for our team to hit our end-of-quarter fundraising goal by the end of this month, we also believe it’s important to reflect back and share the things Katie has accomplished during this first quarter—all because of your support.
Here are just a few things Katie Porter has gotten done in the past three months:
- Voted to impeach Donald Trump for the second time to hold him accountable for the domestic terroism attack on the Capitol on January 6.
- After many people were still being billed for their COVID-19 tests, Katie followed up on her commitment from the CDC Director last year to make testing free for everyone by demanding insurers make clear that they will not charge anyone for tests.
- Joined the Natural Resources Committee and was elected to serve as Chair of the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations to hold corporations and special interests responsible for the climate crisis accountable.
- Joined the House Oversight Subcommittee on Government Operations to get to work on restoring the public’s trust in government.
- Was elected as deputy chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and pushed for no less than $1.9 trillion to support families in the pandemic rescue package.
- Spoke up loudly on behalf of women who have been forced out of the workforce this year and fought for policies that will support working women—especially women of color who have been hit hardest by this jobs crisis—like paid leave and affordable childcare.
- Continued her work to improve our country’s mental health and reintroduced legislation that would strengthen the efforts of state and local governments, nonprofit organizations, and service providers to tackle behavioral health needs in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Published a bombshell report that exposed the devastating effects of mergers and acquisitions between Big Pharma companies and showed how consolidation curbs innovation at the expense of the American people.
- Continued fighting high childcare costs by reintroducing the Family Savings for Kids and Seniors Act—which more than doubles the amount that families can set aside pre-tax to pay for preschool, summer day camp, before or after school programs, and child or adult care.
- Fought for single parents (and their children) to receive the same benefits that married parents receive by exposing the “single parent penalty” in the COVID-19 relief package, which places stricter income limitations on single parents than married parents in qualifying for the child tax credit.
- Was named “Orange County’s most legislatively productive representative” by the Orange County Register for introducing several pandemic-related bills this year.
- Questioned Postmaster General Louis DeJoy again and demanded answers on why he has slashed USPS service and has treated it like his own personal business rather than a public service for the American people.
And John, that’s not even all of it.
Thank you for making it possible for Katie Porter to stand for working people in Congress. We couldn’t do this work without you. If you’re able to make your first donation today, it will help guarantee our campaign can hit our critical end-of-quarter goal and keep Katie fighting for years to come.
