John,
The 2020 Election brought with it historic turnout numbers all thanks to the hard work of Stacey Abrahams, LaToya Brown, and so many other Black and Brown organizers. We were able to smash expectations and flip Georgia blue — not only for the November general election but AGAIN for the runoffs, securing an essential blue majority in both the House and Senate.
But now all of that progress is at risk.
There are over 200 bills in statehouses across the country that are designed to make it harder to vote because Republicans foolishly still believe the 2020 election was “stolen”.
And these racist proposals (yes, they are racist policies) are moving through the Georgia legislature — and many other state legislatures — will drastically inhibit your ability to vote. Some of these policies are truly abhorrent, like banning the serving of food to folks standing in line to vote and taking away no excuse, absentee voting.
But we have a path to fight back, John. The US Congress is considering the “For The People Act” which would protect voting rights and accessibility to voting. But this bill doesn’t have a chance in hell of passing because of the legislative filibuster in the Senate.
John, will you join me in demanding that we protect our right to vote by abolishing the filibuster?
We are tired of having to bend over backwards to simply express the right to vote. After an election with record turnout, lawmakers should not be working to restrict voting, they should be finding solutions to expand the vote. We know exactly why they’re working so hard to keep the people from voting, expanded voting rights hurts Republicans at the ballot box.
Join our fight against voter suppression today by demanding that the filibuster be abolished so we can pass legislation to PROTECT voting rights.
Fighting for you,
