John,
Last night, eight people — at least six of whom were Asian women — were murdered in Atlanta by an alleged white supremacist. While details are still coming in, a man has been arrested and charged with murder in what is an apparent anti-Asian hate crime.
This act of violence was heartbreaking and senseless. What’s worse is that it’s part of a disturbing trend of increased anti-Asian violence. Since the start of the pandemic, more than 3,800 hateful attacks have perpetrated against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.
1 in 6 Asian American and Pacific Islanders say they or a family member have faced racism related to COVID-19. And as we saw with last night's attacks, this violence disproportionately affects Asian-American women, who have consistently reported 2-3 times more incidents of harassment and violence than men.
Enough is enough.
That’s why today, we’re directing support towards two organizations working to empower Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and fight against Asian hate: Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta and the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF). Can you split a donation to these two groups today?
