----------
John,
Last night a white gunman murdered eight people in the Atlanta area -- seven victims were women, and six of the seven women were Asian American. This deadly attack is a reminder that over the last few years we've seen a rise in crimes against members of the AAPI community and against women.
I want to make it clear: hate-fueled attacks like the one in Atlanta last night have no place in Kansas and must be condemned immediately. I stand with Kansas’ AAPI communities -- and AAPI communities across the country -- as we fight to create a more inclusive and just society. I stand with Kansas' women -- and women across the country -- against these acts of violence.
My heart goes out to the families and loved ones of the victims who had their lives turned upside down after the attack in Atlanta.
We cannot let hate win. The next few days are crucial, and it's on all of us to continue to stand up for and show support to women and members of the AAPI communities across the country.
Thank you,
Laura
