In just a moment, we are going to ask you to make a contribution to the Nevada Democratic Party. Please give us a chance to explain why this request — especially today — is so important.

Here’s what happened:

Earlier this month, a slate of progressive Bernie Sanders supporters were elected to leadership positions in the Nevada Democratic Party, including the new Party Chair. That’s great news.

Now the bad news:

When the establishment forces inside of the party realized they were about to lose the leadership positions, they transferred $450,000 out of the party before the leadership handoff took place.

So now we have a team of progressive allies in Nevada, in a state Bernie dominated one year ago, who are ready to transform the Democratic Party in their state. But they are facing limited resources and a depleted bank account. Establishment forces hoped to see them fail. But we need them to succeed — we need to have their backs.

And that is why we’re asking:

Can you rush an urgent contribution to the new Nevada Democratic Party today? Help us raise the $450,000 that establishment forces transferred out of the party before the new progressive leadership took power.

What we do together during the next four years will decide whether our country continues to be a democracy, or whether we elect another president like Donald Trump who takes us further in an authoritarian direction. And that will be determined, in part, by how well the Democratic Party responds to the pain and suffering of the working class of this country now that Democrats control the White House and Congress.

That is why we must build a Democratic Party that truly speaks to the pain of the working class of our party — Black, White, Latino, Native Americans and Asian Americans. We must build a broad coalition of Americans who believe in the principles of justice and have the courage to stand up to the powerful special interests who have so much control over the economic and political life of our country. The Democratic Party must be driven by grassroots activism, not by a small group of well-paid political consultants.

Our country is in the middle of a series of crises that require us to think big, not small. During this unprecedented moment in American history, we must make it clear that we will not return to the same-old, same-old establishment politics. We cannot continue to ignore the needs of tens of millions of working families. And we cannot accept vast levels of income and wealth inequality where the very rich get much richer while a majority of Americans live in economic desperation.

It is time to create the transformative change this country needs, and that requires getting more young people and working people involved in the political process — including those who have never voted before.

With our progressive allies now holding leadership positions at the Nevada Democratic Party, we have a huge opportunity to transform politics in Nevada and across the country.

Right now it's up to us to make sure our progressive allies succeed in their new roles as leaders in the Nevada Democratic Party. This is an important moment for our movement, which is why we're asking you directly:

Please make a contribution to the new Nevada Democratic Party today. Let's raise back the $450,000 that establishment forces transferred out of the party before the new progressive leadership took office.
