NOW on POV: Elaine Is Almost
"We were born eight years apart and I think we are soulmates."

Shot and animated over the course of a year, Elaine Is Almost explores the unconditional love between siblings as one sister interviews another on the eves of her 14th and 15th birthdays. Filmmaker Em Yue uses live action mixed with animated sequences to delve into their younger sister Elaine’s awkward early teen years. A conversation on diversity, feelings of anxiety, and the need to find one’s place in the world unfolds and becomes a film about identity, connection, and family ties.

This film is part of Otherly, a series of seven short documentaries about belonging, premiering on Instagram Stories.
