We’re heartbroken, John. Last night, a series of shootings occurred at different massage parlors across the Atlanta area that left eight people dead. Seven out of the eight victims of the rampage were women, and at least half were Asian.
Let’s make this clear: this was not a random instance. 3,800 incidents of anti-Asian violence have been reported in the last year, mainly by Asian women. Trump's rhetoric has fueled this hatred, and it also comes from a long history of anti-Asian racism in our country.
On that same night of these tragic attacks, Trump went on Fox News to repeat his usual racist, anti-Asian rhetoric.
That’s why today we’re launching a rapid-response petition demanding advertisers to drop Fox news and rise against the racist agenda that Fox News promotes. Add your name now: If we can get enough advertisers to quit supporting Fox News, we can pressure Fox News to stop featuring Trump.
Women of color always bear the greatest risk of men’s violence.
This shooting spree in Atlanta was an intersection of violence against women and race-based violence that share the same catalyst: white supremacy. It’s a painful reminder that it’s past time for us to organize and drive white supremacy out of our country.
One of the most powerful and effective ways we can do that is by holding accountable one of the worst platforms for racist rhetoric: Fox News.
Trump has been a regular guest on this channel and allowed to spew his white nationalist talking points on this platform. From the January 6th attack on the Capitol to last night’s shootings — we’re seeing a rise in white supremacist violence. This is no coincidence: this is the product of Trumpism and the platforms that still lift up this messaging.
Keep fighting,
Women’s March
