Team, March is Women’s History Month — a month dedicated to celebrating trailblazers like Vice President Kamala Harris, Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Rosa Parks. It’s a time to reflect on the women who broke barriers and shattered glass ceilings to help others become voters, teachers, lawyers, Members of Congress, and even Vice President of the United States. But today, women are only paid 82 cents on average for every dollar a man makes. For a full time, year-round working woman, that’s a wage gap of nearly $10,194 each year. And for Black and Hispanic women, the gap is even bigger. One of the most basic ways that we can overcome obstacles like the wage gap facing women today is by doing the work to elect more women to Congress. In 2020, I was the only competitive red to blue pick up in the country when I won in Georgia’s 7th district. Now, I’ve joined 36 other women in the New Democrat Coalition, all of whom are fiercely advocating for the issues that impact women most — from closing the wage gap, to ending the COVID-19 crisis and fighting for affordable health care and child care. We’ve made incredible strides for women in just the past few decades. In 2022, we have the opportunity to elect even more NewDem women to Congress. But we’re going to need you to lend a hand.
