Dear Friend,
With your help, we made history.
We played a key role – both in public and behind-the-scenes – in getting Congress to pass the biggest, boldest plan to fight domestic poverty and hunger in decades.
The American Rescue Plan will provide tens of millions of struggling Americans with tens of billions of dollars’ worth of groceries. And, this historic relief package will cut child poverty in half through a new child tax credit for low-income families.
This ground-breaking package proves that advocacy works, and that who is in charge of our government matters – big time! The $1.9 trillion relief plan increases funding for SNAP, WIC, and Pandemic-EBT – programs that Hunger Free America works day in and day out to connect people to through outreach and the National Hunger Hotline. Now, recipients of these programs will have a little more in their pockets to put food on the table and afford other basic living expenses like rent, childcare, transportation, and healthcare.
Your generous support allowed us to fight for low-income Americans and get this package passed. I am truly encouraged. So thank you. Thank you. And thank you again.
But we won’t stop here. We’ll continue to be vigilant to ensure that these policies and programs are being implemented for maximum impact. We’ll continue to work with elected officials and our partners on the ground to make sure hungry families have access to every resource for which they qualify. And we’ll continue to advocate for increases in SNAP and the groundbreaking child tax credit to be implemented long-term.
We’re looking to end hunger once and for all, to make sure that our country never has another hunger and poverty crisis like the one we’ve all witnessed over the last year. With your continued support, we’re going to make that happen.
My sincere thanks,
Joel Berg, CEO
P.S. Even with this recent victory, the economic fallout of the pandemic will continue to impact low-income families for years to come. We must continue our vital work. Can we count on your continued generous support?
P.P.S. Support HFA at a virtual wine tasting on Wednesday, March 31st hosted by ONEHOPE Wine. 10% of proceeds will go to our efforts to make sure everyone in our country has access to nutritious food.
