Dear John,
With the Equality Act barreling down the tracks, a handful of Republicans are scrambling to meet the other side halfway. They think they can protect religious freedom and still give LGBT activists some of the special rights they've been demanding. Now, that sounds like a great deal if it were possible--but it's not. In exchange for this tiny fence of protection around churches and religious schools, Americans would be forced to embrace a radical definition of sexual orientation and gender identity everywhere else: in classrooms, sports, workplaces, public office, businesses, and even as parents!
They call the bill "Fairness for All"--but it's not fair, and it's certainly not for all. It's a clever way to repackage the Equality Act that circles the wagons around explicitly religious institutions for now--and paves the way for a complete takeover of our churches and schools later on. Dr. Albert Mohler puts it this way: "It's a way of religious leaders saying, 'We're going to protect our churches, our denominations, and the most closely-held ministries to our churches... but when it comes to Christians in the marketplace, Christians in the workplace, when it comes to the florists, the bakers, the cake makers, and all the rest... you'll simply have to defend yourself in court. We'll hope for the best.'"
Fairness for All says: the only way to stop LGBT activists is to submit to them. That's not only naïve, it's a compromise of our most sacred truth--the gospel. Tonight at 8:00 p.m. ET, Tony Perkins will talk about the urgency of stopping this legislation with Russell Vought, former OMB director and new president of Center for American Restoration; KathyGrace Duncan, whose amazing testimony on de-transitioning shows just how unfair Fairness for All is; and former Atlanta Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran, who knows exactly what Christians can expect under an attack like this one.
