For the People Act (H.R. 1/ S. 1) Briefing Monday, March 22, 2020 | 2 PM ET | Free |

The For the People Act (H.R. 1/S. 1) has the potential to strengthen the right to vote for all communities, enact important ethics reforms, and revitalize our democracy. But the landmark bill, as currently written, includes language that would have serious impacts on the ability of nonprofit organizations, including (c)(4) organizations, unions, civil rights organizations, immigration groups, and many others in our communities, to weigh in on key policy discussions. Please join AFJ’s Bolder Advocacy team; Kate Ruane, Senior Legislative Counsel at the ACLU; and Holly Schadler and Larry Gold, Partners at Trister, Ross, Schadler & Gold PLLC on Monday, March 22nd at 2 PM ET to learn what H.R. 1/S. 1 could mean for you. We will discuss some of the lesser-known provisions in the bill and hear from experts about how their activities could be impacted and why the nonprofit community should take notice. As the Senate prepares for a hearing on companion bill S. 1 next week, now is a critical time for advocacy organizations to understand the potential burdens the bill could place on your rights to boldly advocate for and against future legislation that impacts your missions. Come learn more and RSVP here. This webinar is free and open to the public but closed to the press. |
