Dear NCRC members and allies,

Each year brings new research and attention to the connection between economic security and physical health, and 2020 certainly brought that and more. Here is a preview of a few 2021 Just Economy sessions that focus on the intersection of health and wealth.

COVID-19, Public Health and Disinvestment

Focused on the NCRC Redlining and COVID report, this panel discussion will incorporate speakers from NCRC as well as public health and community investment speakers to help the audience understand the relationship between health and investment.

Sick to Debt: Hospital Medical Debt-Issues, Challenges, Solutions

Nationally, healthcare access and cost are growing concerns for many Americans. Nearly 1 in 6 Americans was contacted by a debt collector in the past year over a health care bill. Medical debt disproportionately affects patients from low-income households and communities of color. This session will examine medical debt and the disparate impact of this debt on White and Black communities, as well as policies, programs and campaigns at the national and state level to improve the health and wealth of low-income and working families.

Bringing It All Together: Convening on Health and Community Development Investments

Aligning resources can be a game-changer in the fight to reduce health and economic disparities as they typically reinforce each other. This session will:
  • Outline opportunities for collaboration between community development and hospitals from the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia report, "Exploring Hospital Investments in Community Development."
  • Present a framework and scan of policies from Build Healthy Places Network to create a more conducive environment for collaboration across sectors and ways in which we can incentivize healthcare to consider community development organizations as important partners in shaping policy and investments in social determinants of health.
Register now for two jam-packed days of keynotes and networking online May 3-4, plus:
  • Pre Conference: Advocacy Week, April 26-30 (for NCRC members only)
  • Post Conference: Just Economy Sessions, May 5-14
