John,

I know you’ve heard quite a bit from my team about our important FEC fundraising deadline in a few weeks. This will be the first big test for our campaign, so I had to reach out directly: Will you chip in $5 or more before midnight tonight to help us get back on track with our campaign finance plan?

Here’s the deal: In the coming months, Texas will draw new congressional districts, and there is a strong chance that our district will be even more competitive than it was in our last two elections.

Washington Republicans know this, and they’ve made it clear that they see my seat as a top pickup opportunity for them in their efforts to take back the House.

They’re counting on this redistricting process to swing the odds in their favor, and their early targeting of my seat means we can anticipate dark money and special interest super PACs to throw millions of dollars at our race.

John, I’m proud to run a people-powered campaign, fueled by hard-working folks giving a few dollars at a time, not big corporate PACs trying to buy my vote. But that also means I’m counting on this grassroots team to step up in a big way.

A strong public fundraising report will go a long way in proving that our campaign can withstand any challenge that comes our way, but we’re still $2,101 short of where we need to be. Will you chip in $5 or more to help us protect my seat in Congress?
