This is the next major battle for the environmental movement? ? ? ? ? Friend ? this is a huge moment. Last week, President Biden signed the COVID-19 relief bill into law. He's vowed to follow it up with a major infrastructure investments package, teeing up the most important environmental fight of the year.
We're asking every LCV member to pitch in just $5 to fight for the green infrastructure recovery plan we NEED to combat the climate crisis. A group of donors is triple matching every contribution right now ? [link removed]
Early proposals for the infrastructure package include plans to create millions of green jobs to modernize our energy, transportation, and water infrastructure. This is the stuff that really moves the needle on climate change ? solar, wind, energy storage, electric vehicles, green and efficient buildings.
Cards on the table: there's a real threat here too.
In January, Biden put a pause on all new oil and gas projects on public land. In response, oil and gas CEOs have ramped up major PR campaigns targeting lawmakers in vulnerable seats. It is all but guaranteed they will attempt to direct infrastructure funds to pipeline projects and other ways to extend our fossil addiction.
The environmental movement has to go all-out right now. That's why this triple match fund matters ? we can push our campaigns that much further.
Friend ? you haven't claimed your triple match offer yet. Can we count you in?
MATCH STATUS: [PENDING]. Claim it now ? even $5 is enough to make a difference ? [link removed]
We're fighting for a plan that builds 500,000 electric vehicle charging stations in underserved neighborhoods and along highways and supercharges manufacturing of electric vehicles. A plan that manufactures and installs tens of thousands of wind turbines and millions of solar panels.
But these investments have to prioritize communities that have been hurt most by pollution and climate change. That means demanding at least 40% of the investments go to low-income communities, Tribal communities, and communities of color.
We can win this, I promise ? but the campaign is going to take all of us. This package will need to make it through a Senate that's split 50/50 ? and that's what's keeping us up at night right now.
This infrastructure and recovery bill is being touted as a "once in a generation" opportunity. It really could be. Or, we could let oil and gas CEOs steer the ship, and jam in funding for new pipelines and fossil fuel and gas use.
So we're asking for your help. Here's where our campaign stands right now:
