Today is St. Patrick’s Day and we’re using it to reflect on the tremendous progress in abortion rights we celebrated with our pro-choice friends in Ireland just a few years ago.
I’m still so, so happy that a country with an anti-abortion legacy could repeal its previous near-total ban on abortion in a landslide victory for reproductive rights [1]. The catalyst for this change was horrific, the death of Savita Halappanavar, who died after she was refused an abortion in 2012. Her story proves we must center the needs of abortion seekers in our activism.
