Equal Rights Amendment and Violence Against Women Act Up for House Vote This Week [[link removed]]

BY CARRIE N. BAKER | Two critically important women’s rights bills will come before the U.S. House of Representatives this week: the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and the Equal Rights Amendment.

On March 8, Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas), House Judiciary Chair Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) reintroduced the bipartisan Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act of 2021, which would support of women and all survivors who have been subjected to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking.

Another item on the House agenda for this week is the Equal Rights Amendment. On January 21 in the House, Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) introduced a bi-partisan joint resolution to remove an arbitrary timeline for ratification. Senators Ben Cardin (D-Md.) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) have introduced an identical resolution in the Senate.
