One-time survival checks are not nearly enough. The money runs out, but the bills don’t stop coming — from rent, utilities, and student debt payments, to food, diapers, and life-saving medication. In the midst of a deadly pandemic and deep economic crisis, no one should be forced to choose between remaining in their home, putting food on the table, or paying for basic necessities.
That’s why Ayanna co-sponsored Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s legislation to deliver monthly $2,000 payments to everyone in the United States — regardless of their immigration status.
We must be bold, because the pain is deep in our communities. We need unprecedented solutions that meet the scale and scope of the challenges we face, mitigate the harm working people are experiencing, and set us on the path for a just and equitable recovery.
The people demand, deserve, and require $2,000 a month for the duration of this crisis. 60% of voters support recurring payments, but we need to show massive public support to pass this bill.
