Hi, Over the course of his presidency, Trump tried to undermine the USPS by stacking its board with corporate executives, deliberately slowing mail, and removing USPS mailboxes.1 Now, it's time to invest in the USPS to ensure that this vital public service is able to thrive. That’s why we're calling on the federal government to reinstate a postal banking system. That would allow people with low incomes to get access to financial services -- and shore up the postal service's finances. Tell the federal government: Save the USPS and restore postal banking! Postal banking isn't a new idea--from 1911 to 1967, the USPS operated the Postal Savings System, which at its peak held the equivalent of over $35 billion. Today, postal banking can be used to shore up the USPS, and also alleviate the financial duress faced by underserved communities. Postal banking is one of the best ways to help the 7 million American families that are underbanked, by providing small loans, savings accounts and more. Postal banking would also protect Americans from predatory practices like overdraft fees, payday loans, and other financial industry schemes. Trump tried to destroy the USPS. As early as 2018, Trump and his corporate cronies wanted to privatize the postal service.2 It's time that President Biden and Congress take steps to ensure that the USPS cannot be sold off to the highest bidder -- including restoring postal banking.
