John -- Yesterday the Senate confirmed Congresswoman Deb Haaland as Secretary of the Interior. This historic confirmation is a huge milestone.
Secretary Haaland will be leading such agencies as the Bureau of Land Management, the United States Geological Survey, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the National Park Service.
For the first time in our history, an Indigenous person will head up the department tasked with management and conservation of federal lands and their natural resources.
It’s a huge step forward as our nation grapples with the damage and oppression it has inflicted on the Indigenous people of this land.
Secretary Haaland shares many of the same values and priorities as Brand New Congress reps like AOC and Cori Bush. Haaland supports Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, and she did not accept corporate PAC donations for her congressional runs.
We are encouraged by Haaland’s appointment and grateful to have someone with her values in such a vital role in the new administration.
If we wish to see more appointments and confirmations as promising as Haaland’s, we must elect more people to Congress who share our values.
Will you chip in $1 and celebrate with us as we work to elect a more progressive Congress in 2022?
Let’s make more history in 2022 and beyond!
Brand New Congress
Brand New Congress laid the foundation for the Green New Deal and we believe in a federal jobs guarantee, a living wage, and Medicare for All. We train and support candidates to run winning, grassroots campaigns while refusing a dime in corporate PAC donations.
Our elected progressive champions include Cori Bush, AOC, Rashida Tlaib, and Jamaal Bowman. Join us today and help us fight for a better future for ALL Americans.
