One admissions official described the historic surge in applications as
nothing short of a miracle.

Some medical schools, which typically see just a 1-2% fluctuation in
admissions year to year, have seen that number surge by 30%. This comes at
a time when the U.S. is already struggling with a shortage of doctors,
nurses, and physician assistants that was projected to get worse in the
coming years.

A Senior Director for the Association of American Medical Colleges
described this moment as “unprecedented”: More women, people of color,
LGBTQ Americans, and Americans with disabilities are applying than at any
point in modern history.
