Is There a Deal to Be Made on TPS? ([link removed])
A new video from the Center for Immigration Studies explains the amnesty and path to citizenship for an estimated 400,000 foreign nationals with Temporary Protective Status (TPS) incorporated into the Dream and Promise Act ([link removed]) . TPS grants a short term amnesty, which includes a work permit, to illegal immigrants already in the United States when temporary conditions occur in their country that make it difficult to return safely. But recipients have benefitted from continual renewals by the executive branch, making the program anything but temporary. Mark Krikorian, the Center’s executive director, describes the compromises available to Congress which could help ensure an amnesty would not be requested in the future for the next group of TPS recipients, which would perhaps include the Burmese nationals and 320,000 Venezuelans who have been granted TPS by the Biden administration.
