I'm reaching out to you with a concerning new report about white nationalists in our military and what we're doing to address it.

A new intelligence assessment conducted by the FBI found that white supremacists and far-right extremists have joined our military and law enforcement agencies throughout the years to further their ideologies and develop strategies for war.

Though shocking to some, it is even clearer to me now that white nationalism has become a full blown crisis in our country -- a fact on full display when the Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, and other extremists ransacked our Capitol on January 6. These groups' being in the military also presents a dire national security threat, as white supremacists may gain privileged information while in the military.

Domestic extremists are using our military as a training ground to develop their tactics, and they're roping each other in to learn how best to cause terror and bloodshed in our streets. If we ignore this now, we'll see events like January 6 in cities nationwide in the coming months, and especially ahead of the midterms.

I want to make sure your communities are safe, year round. That's why last year, I asked the Pentagon to study this issue in depth. And now that we have all the facts on the threat white supremacists pose to the military, I've introduced the Shielding Our Military from Extremists Act to make certain that seven commonsense recommendations are implemented.

If my bill is passed, it will ensure that white supremacist symbols like tattoos are flagged and evaluated. It will create comprehensive trainings for evaluating extremist ideologies so that those with ties to neo-Nazism and white supremacy are never again put in positions of power to terrorize you or your loved ones.

I will never stop fighting to end white nationalism in our country, I promise. But I'm going to need support from all of you to weed it out of Congress -- especially when some of my colleagues across the aisle are the very people who helped incite the Proud Boys' violence earlier this year.
