Friend, The 2021 Nevada Legislative Session is in full swing! Tomorrow morning, March 17th, at 8:00AM there is a crucial hearing on banning ghost guns and keeping Nevada safe happening in the Assembly Judiciary Committee. This hearing will be the first read of AB286. AB286 bans ghost guns and the parts and kits used to make them. This is a huge step forward given the popularity and ease with which some folks have been able to get their hands on ghost guns. Essentially, ghost guns are firearms that anyone can assemble with unserialized or “ghost” parts or kits that they can buy online or at a gun show. They are completely unregulated and because they are unserialized, they are untraceable. This phenomenon has only worsened during the global pandemic as thousands of people tried to buy firearms at an alarming pace. Many online retailers of ghost gun kits and parts have reported such high sales volumes, that they were sold out. AB286 also allows various properties across Nevada to opt-in to prohibiting firearms on their premises. This means that hotels can finally choose to disallow firearms on their property. Some of the resorts and hotels in the Las Vegas area are supporting this legislation because they understand how important this is. The bill will help prevent tragedies like we saw with 1 October and it will help limit the excessive violence we have seen on the Las Vegas strip in the last year. This bill is a step in the right direction for our state and it will make our state safer overall. I urge you to attend the hearing virtually and offer your support during the testimony portion of the hearing. Simply fill out the form with your information, use the phone number and code provided to call into the meeting tomorrow, and follow the instructions given on the line to add yourself to the support queue. We cannot do this without you! I know that you want Nevada to be a safe place to live, raise children and work! Please Attend at 8am Wednesday March 17th, 2020 If you can't attend the hearing, please email your comments in writing to [email protected] and submit your opinion in favor of the bill on the legislative website. This is a huge opportunity to make our communities safe by ensuring firearm purchases are legal and responsible. Submit an opinion in favor of AB286 here!
Thank you for your support, Amber |
