Hi,

When you think about where you are today, who are the women who have paved the way for you?

In my life, the list is LONG. There's Eddie Bernice Johnson, Ann Richards, and the first Black woman to be mayor of DeSoto, Texas, Curtistene McCowan. These Texas trailblazers are personal heroes for so many of us, inspiring countless young women to pick up the fight where they left off.

But the women working out of the spotlight make just as big a difference. I'm thinking of my mom and my grandmother, who opened doors of their own, and passed down every possible opportunity to the next generation. They raised me to be fearless in chasing my goals, and taught me not to wait for permission to do what needs to be done. And going further back, my family traces our roots to six sisters "The Davis Girls" from Freestone County, whose descendants have left their mark in Texas, and beyond, in almost every way imaginable.

I owe where I am today to the vision and strength of these women, and so many more. What Women's History Month makes me realize is that that's true for our entire movement. In the history of progressive organizing in Texas, there are women -- most often women of color -- behind every hard-won battle.

Texas will keep going forward because of hardworking, visionary, Democratic women -- women in this community. That's why, just like we stand on the shoulders of past trailblazers, we have to be relentless in lifting each other up.

Because one day, the women leaders of tomorrow will stand on the shoulders of this movement. Will you chip in $7 or whatever you can to elect more Texas Democratic women?
