John,
This Women’s History Month, we wanted to take a moment to highlight the impact that women have had on the care work industry and discuss the ways we can build a network of support to keep care workers and community members safe as we work towards the end of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Earlier this month, Jamaal introduced the Care For All Agenda which calls on our federal government to explicitly center our care workers in our economy and guarantee good wages and benefits, workplace protections, and the right to unionize.
John, with the Care For All Agenda we finally have the chance to build a care work infrastructure that meets the scale and scope of the health and care work crises we face.

Everyone gives and receives care, and will need care at some point in their lives. As an intersectional issue, the devaluation of this care work also affects workers’ rights, women’s rights, disability rights, racial justice, and climate justice. Care work is a profession that has been long dominated by women and has been historically characterized as “women’s work” — resulting in discriminatory penalties such as unfair wages, unsafe working conditions, and unfair workplace treatment.
The Care For All Agenda cements the undeniable fact that care work is the foundation of our economy and our society, highlights the intersectionality of gender and race, and immediately invests in the care work industry to improve all aspects of our society.
It’s clear that our fight to strengthen the framework of our care work economy is directly tied to our work in becoming a nation built on the pillars of justice, compassion, and livable wages for everyone. And the Care For All Agenda is the first of many milestones in creating this inclusive network of support for our health care and frontline workers — and Jamaal is leading the way.
