Associated Press:
"From vote to virus, misinformation campaign targets Latinos"
FIGHT BACK >>> [link removed]
John -- You've heard about all the disinformation and misinformation targeting Latinx voters during the 2020 election. But did you know that disinformation has only increased since then?
Much of it has transitioned into lies and rumors about the COVID vaccine, which is depressing vaccination rates in the Latinx community. According to a recent poll, 37% of Latinxs said they wouldn’t get the vaccine if it were made available to them! This is yet another reason why our Latino Anti-Disinformation Lab project with Media Matters is so important. Can we count on you to pitch in to get this effort off the ground?

Researchers are getting to the bottom of where all of the disinformation is coming from. Experts at leading universities have found that "the most prominent narratives [shared in Spanish] were either closely aligned with or completely repurposed from right-wing media outlets. "
The Latino Anti-Disinformation Lab will build on this research to determine the best ways to counter the lies and inoculate the Latinx community against them. Disinformation may not be going away anytime soon, but we CAN effectively fight against it. And if we do, we can save lives and ensure that Latinxs are making decisions about who to vote for that truly benefit them.
In order to be successful this project has to be ambitious, John. That's going to cost money – but it'll be worth it. Will you pitch in to help us protect the Latinx community from disinformation on COVID, politics, and more?
