I need your help to turn up the pressure on my colleagues.

Chris Murphy for Senate

Team —

The House just passed H.R. 8. That’s the universal background checks bill. It passed 227 - 203, and the support was bipartisan.

Now, it’s on to the companion bill that I’ve introduced in the Senate. Mitch McConnell refused to consider this bill during the the last Congress, but now, Democrats are in charge and can get it across the finish line.

So I need your help to turn up the pressure on my colleagues.

Can you sign my petition to tell the Senate to schedule a vote, debate and pass my universal background checks legislation? It’s time to get every senator on the record on this issue.

It’s been nearly eight years since the Senate voted on a background checks bill. It was right after Sandy Hook, and Republicans were in control. A lot has changed since that crushing defeat.

In that time, we’ve built a national political infrastructure that can finally rival the gun lobby. Our movement has fundamentally reshaped the debate on this issue to where more than 90% of Americans support this bill. And now we’ve elected gun safety majorities in both chambers — while the NRA is weaker than at any point in their history.

This is our moment. The American people will not wait any longer.

I believe that if this bill comes to the floor of the Senate then it will pass.

The first step toward that is making your voice heard:

Add your name: Tell the Senate to schedule a vote, debate and pass my universal background checks bill. We were elected to get things done, and this is a simple, popular action we can take to save lives.

Thank you in advance for adding your voice to mine. I will carry it with me in conversations with my colleagues because you’re either with us or you’re with the gun lobby.

Every best wish,

Chris Murphy
