Last week, Democrats in Congress passed the boldest COVID relief plan yet, one that provides the resources our country needs to roll out the most ambitious vaccination program ever, gets funding to schools to make sure they can open safely and stay open, and completely re-envisions our social safety net, getting aid to those most hurt during this pandemic.

In that bill we specifically set out to meet the needs of children: getting them back in the classroom safely, investing in food programs, increasing access to affordable healthcare, and revolutionizing the child tax credit. And that last item is a very, very big deal: more families now qualify, and they will get a monthly check for up to $300 per child to help make ends meet. No more waiting until they pay their taxes. These changes will help 93% of families afford the increasingly high cost of raising children, and will cut child poverty in half.

Democrats govern in a way that reflects our values and improves lives. This is why we absolutely must maintain our majority in the House after the 2022 midterms.

But here's the thing that is going to be challenging. Our majority is slim.

Earlier this month, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) named me a 2022 Frontline member -- House Democrats whose competitive seats we need to protect to hold our Democratic House majority.

The DCCC listed my seat because they know national Republicans are ready to go all-in to defeat me and take back the House majority. In fact, the National Republican Congressional Committee already named Washington's 8th District one of their top targets in 2022. It's only a matter of time before the attacks and dark money start flooding our district again.
