Friend, when I first came to America in the 1950s, women could not hold credit cards in their names, women could get fired for being pregnant, and there were no women sitting on the Supreme Court. In truth, I have seen many women shatter through the glass ceiling in the fight to achieve equality. Women like Shirley Chisholm who against all odds and severe discrimination, ran for President, and Kamala Harris who has become the first female Vice President in American history.
Now, my daughter Yvette who has faithfully served New York’s 9th district continues to stand with the women who are working hard to make sure that every voice is heard. The women who have come before us, who were trailblazers so that we could have a woman of color in the White House. But our fight isn’t over yet. Still, in 2021, only 27% of Congress is female. And while that number is the highest it has ever been, we can still do better. Can you chip in to Yvette’s campaign right now and show your support for women in Congress?
