John,

Two years ago today, a white supremacist with an assault weapon murdered 51 people at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand.

But then, less than a week after the shooting, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced a nationwide ban on military-style assault weapons — and parliament passed it with near-unanimous support.

For those of us here in the United States, that kind of swift response feels almost unfathomable. Gun violence survivors like me have been fighting for tangible change — and pushing through our own grief — for years. And yet, even after hundreds of mass shootings, nothing changes.

But, today, I have hope.

Mitch McConnell has lost his ironclad grip on the Senate. Gun safety champions are back in the majority — and, with President Biden and Vice President Harris in the White House, we finally have an opportunity to make meaningful change to save lives from gun violence.

But that change can't happen without you, John – that's why I'm asking for your help today. We're looking for 2,500 gun violence prevention champions to affirm their commitment to this fight before 11:59 p.m. tonight, and your response is missing:

Should Congress take action to ban military-style assault weapons?

Poll closing at 11:59 p.m. tonight

Thanks for speaking out,
