How to Give Emotional Support to Bi+ Women of Color Guide

This is a great resource, shared on Tumblr, from our friends at Bi Resource Center, on supporting bi+ women of color. The author, Gwendolyn Fougy Henry, Ed.M., MSLIS is a writer, librarian, archivist, mental health advocate, and founder and director of Bisexual Women of Color (BIWOC), an organization based in Boston, MA, USA that provides online and in-person support to bi women of color. Gwendolyn is also a Board Member with the Bisexual Resource Center.

With #BiHealthMonth in full swing, it's a great time to make sure that you're providing loving, inclusive support to all bi+ people in your community--including bi+ women of color. Check out this great article now!

Three Steps to Being a Better Local Advocate (While You’re Stuck at Home)

Being engaged in the political process is incredibly important – especially at the local and state level. Here are some ways to stay engaged with local politics and be a powerful ally.

  1. Learn: Take some time to learn about and track LGBTQ-related legislation in your state, county, and city or town and the work being done by your statewide equality group. These resources will help you can stay up to date on the issues that are being debated by local leaders and/or may be on your ballot in the future.

  2. Watch: Join us for PFLAG Academy Online on Wednesday, March 24th at 8:30pm Eastern to learn about the Equality Act and how you can advocate for this crucial legislation in your community. You can also check out this 2020 video from HRC about how one trans teen used his voice to oppose anti-trans legislation and won.

  3. Share: Use social media, text messaging, phone calls, and even video chats to work with your neighbors to organize around local issues that would impact you and your LGBTQ+ loved ones. You can use PFLAG’s policy statements and social media posts from national and statewide LGBTQ+ advocacy groups to help inform your messaging.

Bonus: Confirm that you’re registered to vote; as a registered voter, you can vote for who will represent you in local and state offices, support/oppose ballot initiatives, and engage in town hall events and/or town meetings. You can also look up your municipal, county, state, and federal representatives using this great tool from PFLAG National!

It's time to pass the Equality Act!

Advocacy

The Equality Act Hearing: This Wednesday, March 17th

This Wednesday, the Equality Act will have a hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee. This is a CRITICAL step in the process of its passage, so we cannot emphasize this enough: Now is the time to call your Senators and either ask them to vote YES (if they are currently considering their vote) or thank them for voting YES (if they have already announced support). We must ensure that Senators know that the majority of people in this country support the protections that the Equality Act would provide. Let's not let a vocal minority stand in the way!

Take Action in two ways:
