John,

Senator Amy Klobuchar is putting the pressure on Biden to back the Violence Against Women Act, noting that Senate Democrats “are very concerned that, as a result of the pandemic, cases of domestic violence and sexual assault have increased in communities across the country.”

But Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans don't share that concern. As Senate majority leader, McConnell let the VAWA sit in his legislative graveyard for years. The reason? The National Rifle Association, one of the GOP's biggest donors, complained that reducing violence against women would “negatively affect” the NRA's gun sales.

Countless women, especially women of color, died while the VAWA sat on McConnell's desk -- and now Republicans are once again mounting their objection to reauthorizing the historic bill.

It's past time our government act to protect women -- even if Republicans would rather cozy up to the NRA instead. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer has announced that the House will pick up the Violence Against Women Act this week, but we need to do everything we can to make sure our representatives stop prioritizing NRA donors over women's lives.

We need your support to do that, John. The reason Republicans and their NRA allies have been able to put off this crucial legislation is that not enough Americans have been paying attention, not enough people have made it clear that they care, and that this is a priority. Please, help us remind the GOP that the American people are watching. We'll make sure to include your name in our letter to congressional Dems if you answer by midnight tonight:

Do you want Congress to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act?

Thank you for providing your input as we work to strengthen our democracy and pass crucial legislation to improve the lives of ALL Americans.

Our work would be impossible without your voice.
